The Company
DW-Designs is a small graphic design firm located in Lawndale, North Carolina. We serve customers throughout the United States with our core customer group located in Charlotte, NC. Don Watkins is the company's principal. He has been a graphic designer for more than 40 years, and has served as art director for South Carolina's largest morning and afternoon newspapers, "The State" and "The Columbia Record". Don is the author of two books on advertising. His first book "Guide to Newspaper Ad Layout" received wide acclaim around the world, and has been used by newspaper advertising departments as far away as Sydney, Australia. Don's second book "Newspaper Advertising Handbook" was designated a required textbook in the journalism sequence at the University of North Carolina, in 1984. In addition to writing and designing, he has also taught and lectured at many colleges, universities and trade schools and taught advertising design in the "Evening at Emory" sequence, at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Don has won many awards for his work, including a Grand Prize in international graphics competition, a First Place award for "Best Print Advertising", and a Third Place award in the Grand National competition sponsored by Eastern Papers.
